FedEx shipments to Russia - the worst express delivery service ever

I live in the north of Russia. Not all the modern gadgets are easy to find here.  Recently I have ordered a couple of them from Canada. The supplier shipped them with FedEx from Ontario, Canada to Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

In two days a girl from the Russian office of FedEx called, claiming that I have to go to the customs on my own in order to provide documents confirming the price. When I asked why is FedEx unable to show the invoice provided with the shipment, the FedEx representative replied: "That's not our business".

Neither it was "the FedEx business" to fetch the papers and assist in customs clearance. I had to travel 2.5 hours to the customs and spend roughly the same time to get back in order to hand two sheets of paper. FedEx was unable to perform the clearance not because of some legal problems, but only since the Russian office of FedEx consists of reluctant and very customer unfriendly personnel.

Moreover, the FedEx representative explained: "It is the fault of our Canadian office, that they did not warn of the fact that we do not work with the Russian customs". How comes? The TNT Express and DHL do their best assisting with the customs clearance, while "the FedEx does not work with the customs"... ?!?

Do you think I fetched the gadgets at the customs after handling the papers? You made a wrong guess. Not with the FedEx - the worst express delivery service one can find. They claimed that now FedEx is going to loose another day and a half to deliver the shipment. Moreover, FedEx insisted that I spend another working day waiting for the delivery that could occur within a period of six hours. Six hours! The way from the customs to my home took me 2.5 hours in the first half of the day, when the traffic is very heavy. Well, I am not the only customer, so let it be an extra hour, but where did six come from? What an awful logistic service FedEx has, hasn't it?

Do you think I paid some miserable fraction of the shipment price for the delivery? You are wrong once again. To deliver one pound (410gm) from Canada to Russia FedEx charged USD 120. While the gadgets in the parcel valued USD 415. In other words FedEx charged 29% of the shipment price to provide the worst delivery service possible, spending five days all in all and stealing two working days from me.

Let me give you an advice. Whenever you consider shipping anything to Russia never use FedEx. They are reluctant, unprofessional, overcharging crooks. These words are the most literate ones to describe FedEx services in Russia. For the only FedEx business here is to be as ineffective as possible charging unreasonble money for the horrible service.

P.S.: Meanwhile, I would like to cry out a very obvious question: "Dear FedEx. If you are unable to work with the Russian customs and to provide proper express delivery here, isn't it more fair to suspend your services in the Russian Federation? Or probably, isn't it high time to fire and hire your reluctant overpaid staff in Russia?"
